How To Get The Best Connectivity From Your PDA So You Never Lose Your Signal

With today’s computer world going wireless, even many pocket PCs include wireless technology to be in contact with their laptop or desktop counterparts. One of the issues faced by some handheld users is maintaining a solid connection so the transfer of information doesn’t stop in the middle.
The operating system in the handheld routinely has little to do with any connectivity issues as it is the relationship of the device to the unit with which it is communicating that determines how well the connection is made. With many units, a line of sight is required to maintain a good connection, as well as the proximity of the two units.
Whether your unit uses WiFi or Bluetooth technology to connect wirelessly, any obstruction between the two units will decrease the distance to which a signal can be sent or received. For every wireless connection, there are two units in play, one to send and one to receive. To establish a good connection, both units will be in the handheld as well as the desktop or laptop computer.
Virtually every pocket PC with Windows Mobile operating system installed, including PDA phones and Smartphones, have Bluetooth wireless capability built into the unit. WiFi wireless with 802.11 wireless is built into the Dell Axim models as well as those from iPaq, Asus and Samsung. With the right connectivity a wireless connection to the internet is possible through most handhelds.
Many home networks utilize wireless networking with 802.11 wireless routers and it’s a simple process of configuring the pocket PC to join the network. However, proximity is going to be the key. Most wireless connections are able to reach out to 30 or sometimes 50 feet from the wireless connection. As the separation becomes greater, so does the chance of losing the signal.
Many hot spots have been established to allow wireless communications and when your pocket pc is within range of one of these areas, it can jump onto the host network. Many times communities and businesses supply them for free while others will charge small daily fees.
In order to establish and maintain a good wireless connection, the user has to be within an acceptable proximity to the wireless receiver with as little between the unit and the router as possible. Keeping the unit updated with the newest technology is also necessary to insure compliance with many of the wireless protocols used by different manufacturers.
It’s also advisable to limit walking around with your pocket PC once a connection has been established unless there is little reason to believe the connection is weak. So as not to lose your signal and end communications, it is imperative to remain within the range of the signal.
