There are some software applications people run on their pocket PCs that have a devastating affect on how efficient the operating system works. Additionally, when a new system is tossed out into the market, for various reasons there may be issues that made it through the Beta testing phase and some glitches make it to the end user without being resolved.
Typically, after a few complaints the company will either upgrade the operating system software or develop a patch to correct the issue and let users know a fix is available for certain issues. While many times the notification is sent to a registered user’s email address with instructions on how to retrieve the new or upgraded system, not everyone will acknowledge receipt of the information and live with their pocket PC running slower than they expected.
However, there are a few other issued caused by users that can cause their pocket PC to run slower based on the number of tasks the user has instructed it to perform. Remember, the random memory built into a pocket PC rarely is as great as that in a laptop or desktop computer and multi-tasking may be a little slower. Notifications and alerts can cause the system to run slower if there are several of them assigned in the system. Especially numerous alerts on the same day.
Meeting times, holidays and alerts to make a call all take time and resources away from the pocket PC’s ability to run through its normal routine. One of the ways to help speed up operations is to eliminate unneeded alerts and notifications, especially those that are repeated within the same day or on a daily basis. The important ones should be left in place lest you miss an important call or meeting, but others can be eliminated.
Keeping you pocket PC synchronized can also help keep it running fast and smooth as any automatic updates, unless specified to go to a wireless connection to the handheld unit, will go to your computer. They will not be transferred to the pocket PC until you synchronize the units.
Check the internet site of the pocket PC’s manufacturer often, at least every month to determine if any issues have been identified that can slow down your unit. When an announcement is made, it is usually accompanied by a download to help fix the problem. By keeping it updated through the free downloads, your pocket PC can continue to run as fast as you expect it to go.
If you store pictures and large documents on your handheld unit, it can also slow things down during normal operations. Try storing large files on a removable memory card instead of on the pocket PC’s internal memory chip.
